Ultrafiltration Equipment Solves Severe Iron and Manganese Overload, Restoring Crystal-Clear Drinking Water

Summary: Access to clean, safe water is a fundamental human right, yet countless regions worldwide grapple with poor water quality that disrupts daily life and threatens health. Recently, our team successfully installed a custom ultrafiltration (UF) water treatment system for a client plagued by severe iron and manganese overload—effectively eliminating yellowish water and delivering high-quality purified water that meets strict international standards. This case showcases the practical value of our solutions and underscores the critical need for professional water treatment equipment.

The Challenge: Severe Iron and Manganese Overload Plagues Daily Life

The client’s raw water was severely contaminated with iron and manganese, with concentrations far exceeding WHO standards (iron ≤0.3mg/L, manganese ≤0.1mg/L). The most obvious issue was the yellowish water, which caused daily inconveniences and hidden health risks.
While iron and manganese are essential trace elements, excessive intake poses serious health risks: long-term consumption of high-iron water may cause iron poisoning (gastrointestinal distress, organ damage), and excess manganese impairs the nervous system (memory loss, mental fatigue, tremors in severe cases). The yellowish water also left stubborn laundry stains, rust spots on tableware, and an unpleasant metallic taste.
Additionally, iron and manganese deposits fostered iron bacteria, causing pipe clogs, accelerated corrosion, shortened equipment lifespan, and higher maintenance costs—making a reliable water treatment solution an urgent priority.

The Solution: Customized Ultrafiltration Water Treatment System Installation

After a comprehensive water quality test and on-site assessment, our team designed a tailored solution centered on ultrafiltration equipment, combined with ozone oxidation and multi-stage filtration. Its core principle: oxidize soluble iron and manganese ions into insoluble precipitates, then remove these impurities through multi-stage filtration to deliver clean water.

Our technical team executed the installation efficiently and professionally, adhering to strict international standards to ensure equipment stability and effectiveness. Below is a detailed breakdown of the process:

1. Ozone Generator and Reaction Tank: Oxidation of Harmful Substances

Raw water first passes through an ozone generator—a powerful oxidant that rapidly converts soluble ferrous ions (Fe²⁺) to insoluble ferric ions (Fe³⁺) and divalent manganese ions (Mn²⁺) to tetravalent manganese (Mn⁴⁺). These oxidized substances form insoluble precipitates, which are then sent to a reaction tank for complete oxidation, laying a solid foundation for subsequent filtration.

2. Multi-Stage Filtration: Ultrafiltration Equipment, Filter Tanks and Precision Filter

Post-oxidation, water enters the core filtration system, consisting of two filter media tanks, a precision filter, and ultrafiltration equipment—each component playing a vital role in purification.
The filter media tanks trap large-particle impurities (sediment, iron-manganese precipitates) to reduce the load on subsequent filters. The precision filter then removes finer impurities, ensuring the water meets the ultrafiltration equipment’s inlet requirements and protecting the UF membrane from damage.
As the system’s core, the ultrafiltration equipment boasts 0.03-micron precision, intercepting 90-95% of iron/manganese colloids, bacteria, and viruses. Unlike traditional filters, it uses physical interception with no chemical additives, avoiding secondary pollution. A built-in backwashing device regularly cleans the membrane, ensuring stable water production and long-term efficiency.

3. Final Delivery to Clean Water Tank: Crystal-Clear Purified Water Achieved

After multi-stage filtration, the once yellowish raw water is fully purified and delivered to a clean water tank for storage, ready for daily use. Post-installation testing confirms iron and manganese concentrations are well below international standards, with clear, tasteless water suitable for drinking, washing, and all daily needs.

The Significance: Why Professional Water Treatment Equipment Is Indispensable

This case clearly demonstrates that professional water treatment equipment is essential for resolving iron and manganese overload. Simple filters cannot eliminate soluble iron and manganese ions, nor address associated health risks and maintenance issues.
Our customized ultrafiltration system offers a comprehensive solution: it removes harmful substances, improves water quality, reduces maintenance costs, and features a compact, easy-to-maintain integrated design. For overseas projects, our technical team provides on-site installation guidance and after-sales support to ensure stable equipment operation.
As water pollution becomes increasingly pressing, clean water is a basic health requirement. Backed by advanced technology and reliable performance, our water treatment equipment is dedicated to helping clients worldwide solve water quality challenges.

Conclusion

The successful installation of this ultrafiltration system resolved the client’s severe iron and manganese overload, setting a benchmark for similar regions. We are committed to providing customized water treatment solutions and high-quality equipment. If you face iron and manganese overload, water discoloration, or other pollution issues, contact us for tailored support to access clean, safe water easily.
