Why is the water quality of the softening water equipment yellow? How to solve it?
Summary: Water quality in many areas is relatively hard, so the use of water softeners is very common. Softening equipment helps soften water quality and significantly improves our domestic water quality.
Water quality in many areas is relatively hard, so the use of water softeners is very common. Softening equipment helps soften water quality and significantly improves our domestic water quality.
If a user notices yellowish water coming out of a water softener while using it, it could be due to one of the following issues:
Contaminated faucets or pipes
Check faucets and pipes promptly for rust or secondary contamination.
Contaminated softening resin
If the faucets and pipes aren't the problem, the resin could be contaminated. This could be due to the resin not being backwashed for a long time, or the lack of slow injection of industrial brine into the resin to allow the sodium ions in the brine to exchange with the calcium and magnesium ions in the water. When the resin reaches saturation after this exchange reaction, the quality of the softened water is affected, causing it to turn yellow. Backwashing the resin is essential to remove impurities adhering to the resin surface and regenerate the resin.
If the water turns yellow while using a water softener, you can troubleshoot according to the aforementioned causes.
So how can this be resolved?

Solution
If the water coming out of your softener turns yellow, follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Preliminary Inspection:
First, check the faucets, pipes, and their connections for rust or secondary contamination. Severe rust in these areas may cause the water to turn yellow.
2. Resin Problem Troubleshooting:
If there are no obvious problems with the faucets and pipes, focus on the condition of the ion exchange resin inside the softener. If the resin has not been backwashed or regenerated for an extended period, it may be contaminated with impurities such as iron ions and organic matter, which may affect the water quality.
3. Resin Backwashing and Regeneration:
Backwash the resin to remove particulate matter and other impurities that may be attached to the resin surface. At the same time, regenerate the resin with industrial brine according to the procedures specified in the equipment manual to ensure that the sodium ions in the brine effectively replace the calcium and magnesium ions on the resin, restoring the resin's exchange capacity.
4. Adjust Operating Parameters and Perform Maintenance:
Check and adjust equipment operating parameters to ensure proper backwashing and regeneration. Regular maintenance should be performed, including cleaning the salt tank and replacing filter media.
5. Professional Inspection and Repair:
If the above steps fail to resolve the issue, the resin may be severely damaged or there may be other systemic issues. In this case, contact a professional water treatment service provider for detailed inspection and repair.
