The weather has been gradually getting colder lately, and Nanning has ushered in the season of long sleeves. Similarly, reverse osmosis equipment also requires proper maintenance during these increasingly cold weather conditions to ensure stable operation.
So, do you know how to maintain reverse osmosis equipment in winter?

Reverse osmosis equipment requires extra care during the colder winter temperatures, especially when the raw water temperature is low. This can cause low water output and substandard water production.
Improper operation can also damage reverse osmosis equipment. To avoid unnecessary losses, we should pay attention to the following points when maintaining and using reverse osmosis equipment in winter:
01 Equipment operation and maintenance

If conditions permit, when the water temperature drops below 15°C, a heating device should be added to the raw water supply to ensure a constant temperature between 18°C and 30°C for the reverse osmosis equipment. The optimal water temperature is 22.5°C.
What if these conditions are not available?
Similarly, when the water temperature drops below 15°C, we should increase the frequency and intensity of backwashing in the reverse osmosis equipment's pre-treatment unit and promptly replace the filter element to ensure acceptable water quality. Furthermore, after the equipment has been running for a period of time, it should be shut down for flushing to remove the highly concentrated water.

Reverse Osmosis Equipment Maintenance Tips

It's important to note that the reverse osmosis equipment must operate continuously at temperatures above 0°C. For outdoor installations or those without indoor heating, the equipment must be shut down.
Drain all raw water from the equipment's pipes and remove the RO membrane from the equipment for storage. If operation is necessary, install antifreeze and insulation measures on the equipment and pipes. These measures typically include heating cables and a heater box around the equipment to maintain a constant temperature.
02 Equipment Usage Tips

In winter, you need to pay attention to some tips when using reverse osmosis equipment. The following editor of Kangjin Water Treatment will share with you the precautions for using reverse osmosis equipment in winter:
(1) When we use reverse osmosis equipment in winter, the first thing we need to pay attention to is whether the equipment is frozen. As the use time increases, the water output of the reverse osmosis equipment will also decrease.

In winter, when the water temperature is low, the density of the reverse osmosis membrane will also change accordingly, thus greatly reducing the water production. At this time, we should pay more attention to the operation, increase the backwashing frequency of the pretreatment equipment, increase the flushing time, and replace the filter element of the precision filter in time. When the backwashing time of the RO membrane is extended, the pressure will not surge, so as to ensure the normal operation of our equipment.
(2) If the equipment is installed outdoors, anti-freeze measures must be taken. If not, the filter tank and membrane shell of the equipment may freeze and crack. When the temperature is below 0°C, stop using the equipment. If the equipment freezes, all the pipes, filter bottles, membrane shells, etc. in the reverse osmosis equipment will burst, resulting in water leakage.
